We are proud to announce seniors Chloe Tesser and Jose Aranda as winners in the Texas Eastman Essay and Oratorical Contest in honor of Black History Month. Jose placed 2nd and was awarded a $1000 scholarship. Chloe placed 4th and was awarded a $500 scholarship.
Students submit a research essay about a black person who has profoundly impacted a STEM field. Judges select the top five essays and then invite those five students to round two which is an oratorical contest. According to rules, students memorize a speech to be delivered without notes. Judges tally the results from the essay and the oratory for final results.
To date, Pine Tree students have been awarded $13,000+.

Parkway and Birch Elementary students enjoyed a very special presentation from Orion Jean, TIME'S 2021 Kid of the Year.
Jean sees himself as an ambassador for kindness—he jumps in wherever he sees a need, whether it’s collecting and donating 100,000 meals to food insecure families across the country, or getting 500,000 books to kids with none at home. At a time when isolation and division are rampant, Jean sees the world as it could be if more people brought their communities together to help their neediest members. Thank you, Orion, for your inspirational message!
