The Spelling & Vocabulary contest tests words from The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language, Fifth Edition: Fiftieth Anniversary Printing (2018) as well as words from the news, medicine, and other outside sources. Students study affixes, etymology, word forms, words from other languages adopted into the English language.
