Definition: Gifted and Talented Students
Gifted and Talented students are those who perform at or show the potential for performing at a remarkably high level of accomplishment when compared to others of the same age, experience, or environment and who exhibit high performance capability in an intellectual, creative, or artistic area, possess an usual capacity for leadership, and/or excel in a specific academic field. Gifted and Talented students are also defined as those who excel in their ability to think, reason, judge, invent, or create to the degree that they need special facilities and/or educational services in order that they may have the opportunity to achieve their potential while making increased meaningful contributions to society.

The State Plan provides requirements for and guidance to districts as they meet the unique needs of the gifted/talented population in Texas.

Texas State Performance Projects
Students have to opportunity to exercise voice and choice as they pursue cross curricular learning experiences and research projects of the Texas State Performance Projects. Based on the Texas Essential Knowledge and skills, these projects may be independent or collaborative and focus on the foundational content areas of English language arts/reading, mathematics, science, and social studies. As part of this exploration, students demonstrate their present knowledge gained, learning how to organize, synthesize, and present information to an audience. In October, students in Grades 1-3 will attend the Imagination Fair, hosted by Region VII Educational Service Center in Kilgore. The Imagination Fair, a student seminar designed specifically for Gifted/Talented students, provides students the opportunity to hear a professional story teller and to showcase their own storytelling talents! Additionally, this seminar provides students an opportunity to apply critical thinking during a hands-on, problem solving portion of the seminar.
In November, 4th Grade Robotics Team members will have the opportunity to attend Region VII’s Intermediate Fall Robotics Competition. In addition to showcasing their robots as well as their programming skills, students have the opportunity to apply critical thinking and problem solving skills in a competitive environment. Last year, our 4th grade team took home the First Place trophy!
UIL A+ Academics
